Brown Algae in aquarium?

Is it the natural light, or the light under the hood that causes it? Or both? Its also starting to appear on my plant, what do i do? when i search it online i get different answers, or answers that apply to other kinds of algae only. This kind is brown and easily wiped off. Its more of a slight slime.
