Why do some atheists insult religion?

As I am a true baptist, I do not insult the beliefs and ideals of "atheists" or devil worshipers, jehovah's witnesses, catholics and christians.. I'm a pretty well mellowed out person.. but it seems as If we're doing our part in letting things go and not getting into a "religion war" yet why do atheists, not verbally insult us, but do things like protest a religious gathering in texas, we believe in what we believe in and allow others to follow their own paths, yet the others always judge us..why?
